Reiki is...
From: the Meditation Sourcebook:
by Holly Sumner, P.H.D.
Reiki which comes from Japan, was founded by Mr. Mikao Usui. Its roots are undeniably
religious in nature. There are conflicting opinions about whether
those roots are from Buddhism, Hinduism, Christianity, or a blend
of all three. Students of Reiki are taught the history or at least
the theories of its origins.
Reiki as it is usually practiced, however, has no religious
implications. It has as its basis the supposition that there is
energy inherent in the universe. Reiki practitioners are encouraged
to have their own beliefs as to the source of this energy, whether
that source be God, a god force, or the physical nature of the
universe.
This energy flows throughout all living things -- plants,
animals, and human beings. Reiki practitioners are not giving
away their energy, nor taking any from their clients. They merely
function as a channel for this universally abundant energy.
With Reiki, the practitioner utilizes hand positions to
direct this flow of energy, called ki or chi. Practices such as
Reiki and yoga help that energy flow more smoothly.
A practitioner is not a healer but only a facilitator for
that energy. Only God or the god force (depending on one's religious
views) does healing. for the client, it can be a wonderfully relaxing
sensation. comforting, non threatening touch is sadly lacking
in our world today. Hospitals across the nation are incorporating
Reiki treatments in their offering to patients.
Clients who are having Reiki sessions often slip easily
into a meditative state of mind. Like massage, it feels good and
it's difficult not to relax. Since Reiki is a very gentle, non
manipulative technique, the practitioner can relax as well. Both
client and practitioner are often in a relaxed meditative state!

From: The New Dictionary of Spiritual
Thought
Reiki Therapy. Reiki is the Japanese word for Universal Life
Energy. Rei Describes the universal part of the energy
-- the spirit, or soul, which is continually creating; ki is
actually a part of that rei force, indicating the energy
that flows through all living things. Reiki, as it is commonly
used, refers to the Usui System of Natural Healing. After
a practitioner has been opened to become a Reiki channel,
the energy force flows through the hands when they are placed
upon oneself, another person, an animal, plant, or anything. Through
the use of ancient symbols, it can flow anywhere. The energy seems
to have a intelligence of its own, for when the therapist is working
with another, the Reiki energy will flow to the area where
it is needed most, no matter where the hands are placed. Rediscovered
by Dr. Mikao Usui late in the 19th century, and brought to the
U.S. by Mrs. Hawayo Takata in the 1970's. The New Dictionary

Reiki experience...
This is a record of some real life
experiences. Names withheld for confidentiality
10/1/05 -- MR., Port St. Lucie, FL -- Thank you, you are a beautiful soul whose light
touched me very deeply! I felt light.! I felt love and experienced
healing in a gentle comfortable way. Thank you! I Love you! I
honor your presence.
Practitioner, Cynthia Becklund -- It was such a pleasure to
have a Reiki session with M.R., she is my friend and we can both
hold the higher ground for each other. Love and Gratitude was
the focus and it turned out to be a wonderful experience.
09/26/05 -- R., Ft. Pierce, FL -- This will be an on-going
story.
I am writing this for R. About 4 months ago R came down with something,
the doctors do not know exactly what it is, they prescribing drugs
to treat systems. He has trouble talking and need a walker get
around also he has lost a lot of weight. He is able to eat and
drink lot of water.
I went over to R's house today and asked his wife if she
would ask R if he would like me to apply Reiki, I do not usually
do this, however I could see he was suffering and I wanted to
try and help if I could. After a short explanation of it, he basically
was willing to try anything to feel better. I gave him about 1
hr. Reiki session and prayed that he would feel better and that
he would want to continue to receive some more Reiki treatment.
I leave the encounter in God's hands.
I was very happy the next day, his wife called to ask if
I could give him another treatment, he had asked his wife to ask
me this. She said that she thought the first session had helped
to lift his spirits, R is still not able to communicate easily.
I said of course, I would be happy to.
09/27/05 -- I'm keeping this log for the records, I
have no idea what will happen, I pray for the highest good for
R to come about. The second session was better, he was able to
lay down on the massage table, which made it easier for me and
for him. I could feel more energy moving this time, maybe the
first session helped to get it moving. I thought he looked better,
I think his Spirit had been lifted somewhat. When finished with
todays session R was able to use the walker to meet his wife at
the car. I'm very hopeful. We know that Reiki always works at
some level. I leave the encounter in God's hands. -- Practitioner,
Cynthia Becklund
09/22/05 -- S.G., Ft. Pierce, FL -- I felt the presence
of Archangel Michael originally at the start of the session, throughout
the remainder of the session Archangel Raphael was intensely present.
I had injured the bottom of my right foot by getting a rusty nail
through it the morning before the session, when the bottom of
my right foot was touched, I felt an intense tingling at the right
foot which shot up the entire right side of my body. SG
Practitioner, Cynthia Becklund -- I too felt a remarkable energy
during this session, I was pleased to hear that SG felt the presents
of Angels, that is always nice. I also felt the energy working
on the injured foot. It was an enlightening session.
09/22/05 -- D.G., Ft. Pierce, FL -- As I write this note I can still feel the warmth
of your hands. I do not quite understand our connection with Reiki
but it has always been very! strong. Our table session today was
excellent. At times your hands felt like fire. You are a wonderful
practitioner and you will become an excellent Reiki Master. It
is an honor to know you. DG
Practitioner, Cynthia Becklund -- This was not the first time
I have encountered DG. When DG was working on getting the Master
training I was DG's guinea pig as we call it in the Reiki circle.
When DG was giving me a treatment for Master Training, the treatment
was a wonderful, warm, and calming experience, the time when by
so fast, I think I must have been in another place and time. It
is always a wonderful experience to give or receive Reiki from
DG.
09/19/05 -- N.S., Ft. Pierce, FL -- A calmness never
came over me as I thought it might, but there was a great deal
of heat generated and I was very surprised. I'm sure this treatment
will be helpful to me, they usually are when I wake the next morning.
Thank you. N.S.
Practitioner, Cynthia Becklund -- I felt some energy on the
stomach and ask her if she had some problems there she said yes
so I stayed in that area for a while. We had to turn off the music
for a more quiet time. I feel that it went very well. CB
Follow up -- I talk to N.S. by phone on 09/21/05 and asked her
how she was feeling, she said great that she has felt really good
since she woke up the next day after having Reiki treatment.
09/17/05 -- F.M., Port St. Lucie, FL -- Feeling of calm right away with heat sensation,
as time went by, I began to feel very light in weight with some
tingling sensation. At the foot chakra the sensations elevated
to more "non physical" around the feet and legs. FM
Practitioner, Cynthia Becklund -- Very nice session. Thought
of needing lots of water, I felt that the liver was working hard
to process medication. Foot work felt very good. I could see and
feel a light blue energy around the knee cap. I had the feeling
of etherealization - where the Spirit shines forth and the body
seems to fade away - or when the body is gone and what remains
- the light of Spirit. Very enjoyable session. CB

Reiki, Healing--Universal Life Energy
The word Reiki means universal life energy. It is defined
as being that power which acts and lives in all created matter.
The word consists of two parts the Syllable rei describes
the universal, boundless aspect of this energy while ki
is in itself part of rei, being the vital life force energy
which flows through all living beings. from
