Guidelines for Meditation, Cynthia Beckund
Posture -- Sit or lay down in a comfortably placed. Place your feet apart and comfortable -- hands on your lap or legs, relaxed -- adjusting your body until you feel comfortably, breath easy with body relaxed, re-move or loosen any tight clothing.
Take a deep breath through your nostrils -- Hold it for 5 seconds -- let it out slowly through your mouth - again - now keep adjusting your body until it's right. Your eyes are closed or open whatever is comfortable.
Relaxation -- Tell your body by thought to relax and then scan your body area for tention, the soles of your feet, toes, ankles, your legs, the lower belly and stomach, and organs, chest, shoulders, throat, neck, arms, forearms, your face, now clear and relax your mind. Keep breathing until you feel light and almost ready for sleep but don't go to sleep. Now, alert your mind for what you are going to do -- meditate.
Remember: Meditation is for relaxation and to make a connection with your higher self, a higher intelligence, or the universal life force, only positive thoughts should be allowed, the goal is to have a peaceful experience. To have a relaxed experience you must not accept thoughts of worry, stress, anger or concerns of the day to come in. One way to do this is -- when one of those thoughts come to you - just think, no I am not thinking about that right now -- then think about something positive, like the nicest day you ever had, and why it was so nice.
The experience is different for everyone, find what works for you. I have always found that a small prayer helps me to relax and feel safe, I always say the Lord's Prayer, but that is just my preference. A small inspirational something will work, whatever makes you feel good or makes you smile, maybe a thought of something, like a day at the beach.
Quiet the mind
1. Take breath in -- hold it for 5 seconds -- let it out slowly.
2. Counting while starting a mediation sometime helps to stop the chatter of the mind. Count 1 through 10 over and over or sometimes I will start at 100 and count backwards. When you find yourself not counting, begin again. This distracts your mind so you can go deeper into your meditative state.
3. If you are drowsy, wiggle around or get a drink of water, if that it doesn't work, close off your mediation and go take a nap or go about your business, try again later.

Some Techniques:
Think of nothing,
this may sound like a piece of cake, but you will be surprised how hard it is to think of nothing, you might find yourself thinking of how 'not to think' of anything, but that is still thinking. See what I mean. Cynthia Becklund

Letting Go Technique
This technique is especially good for times of emotional turmoil, clearing it off and out of your body. When we feel attached to places and people there are inevitable connections. This technique pulls off all connections and replace them with positive affirmative suggestions.
Start with your Relaxation -- The purpose is to realize your God-connection. It opens the consciousness to fulfill the yearning to become aware of the God Presence within you.
Scan your body -- when you feel uncomfortable spots in different areas, replace the area with Love and gratitude and thoughts of healing. Example: picture something connected to these spots like a little suction cup, just stuck there, then just gently pull it off and replace that area with a warm feeling of sunlight softly touching it and healing it.
Now just keep scanning your body for anymore uncomfortable areas and just continue releasing them. When using a Shiatus technique you might feel a real sore spot, the Shiatus way would be to gently hold or sometimes apply a little pressure until the soreness lightens in that spot or the discomfort goes away.
I have noticed when using this technique that another spot will bring my attention to it, maybe you were holding a spot on your shoulder, and when you finish that spot you might feel another one on your elbow, just go with it, you might be led to another and another, keep going -- you will feel better afterwards. Relax and release, that is the whole idea, let your body do the work and tell you where it needs attention.

Guided meditation Cynthia Becklund
Have someone who is experienced in guided meditation assist you in imagining something beyond your day-to-day living. Imagination is the birth-place of creative new ideas... sometimes good sometimes not. Spiritually guided meditation becomes a safe place to explore ideas of a power or intelligence greater than ourselves, something beyond our physical self, it stems from the universal idea that everything is related and created for the good of all living things, it can sponsor a deep understanding of loving unconditionally beyond our wildest dreams.
Self guided meditation -- can be done by asking some thought provoking questions.
Can my thinking change my life?
What if my eating habits can change my body? What if I could tell myself to change my eating habits?
What if my Spirit or Soul never dies?
What if my thinking can change my past, present and future
? CB

NOTE: Spiritually guided meditation never sponsors negative, violent, dark, mean, or destructive ideas. If you are meditating and this kind of thought tries to enter kick it out, there is no good that can come from it. Sometimes we can pick up negative or fearful thoughts from TV, news, or just the comments we hear all the time from friends and family, they might not indent to spread negative or fear-based thoughts, sometimes it is unconsciously done, it is our responsibility to filter these thoughts out, you might have to change the conversation to a positive one or excuse yourself from the conversation and walk away. It is a challenge to stay in a peaceful, positive state, it is worth the effort. Don't Worry -- Be Happy!!

Sample of a guided meditation: Go through the relaxation technique. Picture yourself on a soft fluffy white cloud, floating peacefully, quietly, thinking to yourself how beautiful the clear blue sky is and how fresh and clean the air feels. You take a deep breath and just enjoy the peace you are feeling.
You notice a suitcase next to you, you wonder what it is doing there, then decide that it doesn't matter. All of a sudden it opens up and the thought comes to you to fill it will all the things that you are concerned about, all the things that make you sad, all the pain you might be experiencing, one by one place theses items in the suite case.
After you have finished filling the case, you add one more thought-- cover everything with a deep feeling of Love and Gratitude -- close the lid.
LET THEM GO, say good-by, so-long, say-la-vie, by by, as you watch the suitcase disappear. Continue in your peace until you are done with this meditation session.
